Antiques Are Quite Modern

We were very confused at the sight of a few shops across from our hotel in Malacca. Unfortunately, we passed by when the shops were closed so we couldn't find out exactly what they sold. How exactly is an antique modern?

Maybe the gallery is modern with indoor plumbing and whatnot, but they sell antiques?

Or maybe the designer of the antiques was ahead of his time and they look modern? I'm full of dumb ideas before 9AM.
